Here's the basic Canvas layout:
- Course Navigation - this menu allows you to navigate within a particular course. You are able to make certain areas unavailable to students (these links appear "greyed out" to you, but you can still navigate them), but you cannot delete the navigation areas.
- Global Navigation - this menu allows you to navigate areas dealing with your entire Canvas account, rather than a particular course.
- Breadcrumb Navigation - this is very like Bb, where you can see the "trail" of where you've been, leading to where you currently are in the course.
- Content Area - this area is customizable; you can use the rich-content editor to add text, images, media, etc.
- Sidebar - this area has the controls for the particular page that you are currently on. In this illustration, which shows the HomePage of my course, the Sidebar not only has my "To Do" list (each item listed is a live link that will take to that item in the course), but also Page Tool buttons to edit/make changes to the current page, as well as Course Tool buttons to navigate to other areas, such as Course Analytics.
- Help Corner - search the Canvas Guides for the answer to a question, or submit a request.
